This is a platform recently installed in the Thames estuary to replace the damaged original one which had become unsafe.

The design brief was to provide a corrosion resistant and anti-slip platform to provide maintenance access to tidal flap valves. Because of the tide, the structure is only accessible for about four hours at a time, so we assembled the main platform and the walkway linking it to the access staircase in an adjoining field, and then craned them into position.

It was then simply a matter of fixing down (the contract required us to have a look-out man on the sea wall to warn the fitters at the waters edge of approaching ships), making handrail connections, and fitting tread covers to the badly spalling- concrete steps. The project was completed on site in two days.
